NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson Goes One-on-One with UH Summer Campers

Hilton College, Admiral Hospitality Scholars Team Up to Provide Academic, Professional Opportunities for HISD Students

Twenty-five Houston Independent School District high school students will participate in the Admiral Hospitality Scholars camp at the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management thanks to philanthropist and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer David Robinson.

David Robinson

“The hospitality industry is one of the largest providers of jobs in the world and is globally diverse by nature,” Robinson said. “Admiral Hospitality Scholars will expose Houston’s diverse student population to the industry at an age when they’re seeking to define themselves, and give them a glimpse of the types of opportunities that are available if they elect to pursue the hospitality path.”

Robinson launched the program in 2013 supported by the UH Hilton College, Hilton Worldwide, American Liberty Hospitality and Admiral Capital Group.

The three-day camp begins July 14 and will give students an inside look at different careers in the industry and a taste of life at UH.

After completing the camp, each student will be matched with a personal mentor from the hospitality industry and complete a one-year internship at a local Hilton Worldwide-branded property managed by American Liberty Hospitality. When they graduate from high school, they’ll be eligible for financial support toward a hospitality degree.

Robinson will host a special reception for students and their families at the Hilton University of Houston Monday evening.

Robinson will be available to speak with media from 4:30 – 5 p.m., Monday, July 14 in the Hawaiian Room of the Hilton University of Houston.

Following the reception, Robinson and the students will play a pick-up game of basketball at the UH Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
